But I have a really good reason!
More than a week has gone by since my last MW newsletter—but honestly, I have not been idle in the pursuit of Misfitness.
It all began when I joined a challenge, to learn more about the process of creating a “lead magnet” (freebie) for an “offer” (digital product or service) and building a “funnel” (sequence of interactions that will ideally lead to a sale). The challenge was to start and finish a simple offer in one week—and the reward was to get the offer in front of several thousand potential email subscribers.
Although I thought I had some idea of what online marketing is about, I’ve discovered that creator commerce is a complex business. And that we all will have to choose at some point whether to “just be a writer” (which is fine!) or “become an author-entrepreneur.”
So I’ve started writing a Mini-guide that will not only cover three popular marketing models (funnel, flywheel, customer journey), but also propose an innovative Misfit approach. Stay tuned . . .
To start out, I needed some hands-on experience, and something of value to offer. So I sketched a series of three Misfit Micro-guides to Substack. And in the one-week challenge, I wrote the first part (Five Keys to Understanding Substack); created a simple landing page in Kit; and netted my first twenty email subscribers.
This turned out to be (a) a bit harder than expected,
and (b) more fun than anticipated.
If you want to see the whole thing, click here for the landing page, then sign up to instantly access the Micro-guide. By subscribing to that list, you’ll get occasional updates on my creator journey—it’s separate from Misfit Writer here on Substack.
If you’d rather just see the Micro-guide, click here.
By now you might be thinking there are already (too) many Substack “guides” out there, so why add to the inventory?
And my answer would be that almost all the existing Substack advice is basically the same—and most of it is superficial and/or outdated. So I’m hoping to provide a different point of view.
Next week—more Substack Gems, some new event alerts, and Part 2 of the Micro-guide.
See you Monday! C
